CHRISTIAN ISLAND, ONTARIO (JUNE 11TH, 2018)Youth Chief Terra Roy and Deputy Youth Chief Lance Copegog have issued the following statement on behalf of the Beausoleil First Nation Youth Council to congratulate Jill Dunlop on her election as Member of Provincial Parliament for Simcoe-North.

“The Beausoleil First Nation Youth Council congratulates Jill Dunlop on her election as Member of Provincial Parliament for Simcoe-North. Her election as Simcoe-North’s first female MPP is a testament to her dedication, drive, and determination.”

“It is our hope that Ms. Dunlop will be a partner to First Nations, Metis, and Inuit people living in Simcoe-North. The Beausoleil First Nation Youth Council looks forward to working with Ms. Dunlop on its priorities, including reforms to child welfare, increasing youth involvement in civic affairs, and advancing the promise of truth and reconciliation.”

“We are excited to continue the work of relationship building and advancing issues of importance to the youth that we serve. In that spirit, we have extended an invitation for Ms. Dunlop to meet with us to lay the groundwork of our new relationship.”

“The Beausoleil First Nation Youth Council is hopeful that Premier-designate Doug Ford and Ms. Dunlop will make sure that our priorities are met. We must work together to bring change to Ontario.”

Beausoleil First Nation (Christian Island) is located within the riding of Simcoe-North, which also includes Midland, Orillia, Penetanguishene, and the Chippewas of Rama First Nation.
