The Beausoleil First Nation Youth Council has multiple priority areas. Acting on the direction of the youth, the members of the Youth Council work as a collective to advance these important issues.
This area deals with the administrative and financial operations of the Beausoleil First Nation Youth Council. Communications, corporate operations, financial management and responsibility, and policy development falls under this area.
This area deals with child welfare, including child welfare agencies, and the delivery of social services. The Beausoleil First Nation Youth Council strives to advocate for an enhancement of social services through political advocacy. The portfolio holder also has a responsibility to monitor developments around child welfare and social services.
This area deals with the expansion of culturally-relevant programs and services and improvement of language retention. In addition, truth and reconciliation is contained under this portfolio.
This area is focused on advocating for economic development, including youth job creation, economic programs and services, and increased revenue. The portfolio holder has a responsibility to monitor developments around resource extraction on Beausoleil First Nation’s traditional territory.
This area is focused on education, primarily Christian Island Elementary School and secondary education. The Beausoleil First Nation Youth Council advocates for a better school system – one that truly reflects Anishinabek control of Anishinabek education. The Youth Council also works with the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB), Simcoe-Muskoka Catholic District School Board (SMCDSB), and Conseil scolaire Viamonde (CSV).
